Model OAFE-1500 Outdoor Airflow Measurement System

To meet ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1 Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality and the energy efficiency requirements of the “green building movement”, Paragon Controls Inc. developed an AMCA certified outdoor airflow measurement system (Model OAFE-1500) that is capable of producing an overall ±0.5% accuracy through the velocity range of 200 to 1,200 fpm and ±5% accuracy at 100 fpm.

The airflow measurement system consists of multiple airflow elements, factory mounted and pre-piped in a casing designed for flanged connection to ductwork, control dampers, louvers, etc.  An optional inlet bell is available for plenum applications.  The integral signal processor utilizes current state-of-the-art digital microprocessor technology with unequaled 20-bit (1,048,576 steps) A/D and 12 bit (4,096 steps) D/A signal conversion resolution and has twelve-point linearization capability.  The OAFE-1500 is capable of providing full scale operating ranges as low as 800 fpm.  The signal processor accepts a temperature input signal for air density compensation for standard (scfm) or actual (acfm) airflow calculations.

The OAFE-1500 can be used to fulfill Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)® Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ) Credit 1: Outdoor Air Delivery Monitoring for 1 point.  EQ Credit 1 requirements state, “For each mechanical ventilation system serving non-densely occupied spaces, provide a direct outdoor airflow measurement device capable of measuring the minimum outdoor airflow rate with an accuracy of plus or minus 15% of the design minimum outdoor air rate, as defined by ASHRAE 62.1-2004.”  Because of the exceptional accuracy of the OAFE-1500 it can also be used to minimize the additional energy consumption associated with higher ventilation rates (30% above the minimum rates) on projects seeking to obtain 1 point for LEED® EQ Credit 2: Increased Ventilation and on projects seeking to obtain 1-10 points for LEED® Energy and Atmosphere (EA) Credit 1: Optimize Energy Performance.  In addition, the OAFE-1500 can be used to measure the required air volume (14,000 cu.ft. of outdoor air per sq. ft. of floor area) during building flush-out to obtain 1 point for LEED® EQ Credit 3.2: Construction IAQ Management Plan.

SPM-3000 Micro Guardian Space Pressure Monitor and Alarm System

The Micro Guardian is a true differential space-room pressure measurement system.  The Micro Guardian integrates the newest microprocessor technologies with state-of-the-art, industrial grade, highly accurate, ultra low range differential pressure sensing cells.  The combination of these two technologies ensures exceptional accuracy and long-term stability.

The Micro Guardian is a complete system package including space and reference pressure sensors and a central signal processing module.  The central module includes a flush mount electrical box, local LED indication of alarm status and operational mode, audible alarm with alarm acknowledge button, and offers an optional LCD for local display of the space-room pressure.  Device monitoring and configuration is performed via LonWorks® or BACnet®-MS/TP communication networks.  Additionally, the monitor can be configured locally via IR communication using a laptop or Palm Tungsten E2® (or equivalent).  A separate BACnet® communication port is available for connection to an optional Remote Pressure Monitor (i.e. Nurses Station) offered by PCI.  Communication network variables include the measured space-room pressure, high and low pressure alarm values, operational mode selection, alarm status, alarm delay value and audible alarm on/off selection.

The Micro Guardian also incorporates a form C SPDT room pressure alarm relay for remote alarm activation and an analog output signal linear to the measured space differential pressure.  Device zero and span calibration is simply performed by removing the cover, applying the correct pressure, and depressing zero and span buttons located on the PC board.  A successful calibration is indicated by a flashing green status LED.

SPM-4000 Guardian Infinity Space Pressurization, Monitor, and Controller

The Guardian Infinity  is a true differential space-room pressure measurement system engineered to combine the operability of today’s microprocessor technology with state-of-the-art, industrial grade, highly accurate, ultra low range, differential pressure sensing cells.  The combination of these two technologies ensures exceptional long-term stability and ±0.25% measurement accuracy.

Field configuration of engineering units, operating mode, operating range, process noise filtering, alarm set points, etc, are performed via password protected intuitive menus that are accessed through the integral six button touch pad.  Device monitoring and configuration can also be performed by a building management system through either a LonWorks® or BACnet®-MS/TP communication network and through a local IR communication port using a laptop or handheld PDA.  An additional network communication port is available for connection to Paragon Controls’ Guardian RPM, a remote pressure monitor that can be located at a nurse’s station.  The front panel includes an 8 line graphic display for local indication of the space-room pressure and device configuration, LED indication of operational mode and status, and an audible alarm with alarm acknowledge switch.

The Guardian Infinity offers an optional controller that utilizes a proprietary algorithm which results in true three mode control incorporating proportional band, integral (reset) and inverse derivative (P, I, 1/D) controller functionality and tuning.  The controller will provide responsive modulation of a control damper or variable speed drive guaranteeing a stable space-room pressure is maintained.

RPM-2000 Guardian Remote Pressure Monitor

The Guardian RPM is a remote pressure monitor designed for indicating the differential pressure value and alarm status from multiple Guardian space-room pressure Monitors (SPM).  The Guardian RPM can also be used to make global and individual SPM configuration changes such as high and low alarm setpoints, alarm delay value, operating mode, engineering units, etc.  The Guardian RPM communicates with the individual SPMs through a dedicated twisted pair connection using BACnet®-MS/TP communication protocol.  The Guardian RPM is typically located at the nurse’s station for hospital applications or at the facility maintenance office for laboratory applications.

The Guardian RPM includes an eight line graphics display for indicating the room number, differential pressure value, engineering units, current operating mode, and alarm setpoint values of the room being displayed.  An alarm status light is provided for each room being monitored.  In the event an alarm condition occurs, the associated alarm status light will flash red and the audible alarm will activate.  Pressing the alarm acknowledge button will turn off the audible alarm and cause the red status light to remain on until the associated room returns to its’ safe operating pressure.  When the room has returned to its’ safe operating pressure the alarm status light will change from red to green.  If the room returns to its’ safe operating pressure before the alarm acknowledge button is pressed, the alarm status light will flash green until the alarm acknowledge button is pressed.
